The Ethics of Cats is a collection about the past, the personal, the dystopian. The poet intertwines Ireland's colonial history with an examination of how the crises of mental health and housing affect those in domestic spaces. A house can be a home, a threat. As the climate emergency unfolds, what does it mean to have a home, a cat by the fire, dead birds in the porch? It is a book about power, empathy, and survival. Alice Kinsella is an Arts Council of Ireland Next Generation Artist. Her memoir, Milk, came out with Picador in 2023. The Ethics of Cats is her first full- length poetry collection. She lives in Co. Mayo with her family.
